Blu-ray replication

blu-ray_replication

Your Blu-ray discs will be replicated for orders over 500 units, this process is used as it's quicker and more cost effective for larger runs.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT BLU-RAY REPLICATION PRODUCTION

We can only offer blu-ray replication to actual content owners, mainly due to the complexity of the product, both in replication and authoring. Part of the blu-ray disc is the AACS copy protection, and it is not possible to manufacture without it. Without the AACS key, the disk would not function.

The content owner must sign up with AACS and obtain the AACS license number which will be needed as part of the replication process.

Steps for Blu-ray Replication

  1. If Region Protection is required then a BDA agreement is required - approx $500.00 per year
  2. AACS License - the content owner must apply for a AACS ID which can be done through AACS licensing organisation http://www.aacsla.com/home. This must be done by the CONTENT owner - approx $3000.00 one-off fee, with this license, the content owner will be provided with an AACS ID, which is required by the replication plant before any manufacturing can be started.
  3. AACS Charges - per master there is an AACS charge to cover AACS Media Key, Content Clarification and AACS order processing fees which comes to approx. £1100.00 per title ($2200)  There is also an additional charge for the AACS email delivery fee, also required in the set up of BD replication. Approx. £125.00 per title ($250)

Time Lines

You should allow 10-12 working days for the AACS Application / Mastering, 5 working days for a testmold if required and a further 15-17 working days for the replication and packaging. These time lines could change during peak periods.

technical

The process for replicating Blu-ray media involves the creation of a 'glass master'; this is a mould which enables a stamp to be created. Your Blu-ray discs are pressed by the master stamp which creates a pit into the surface and then metallises it to create a reflective coat. A HD player will read the pits via its laser. Finally a protective lacquer is added giving a top surface suitable for print. This process has higher sets up costs than duplication, which is why it is mostly suitable for larger quantities. We also recommend screen-printing or offset (litho) printing for your Blu-ray as it is more cost effective.
