CD replication involves creating a 'glass master' - a mould from which a stamp is created. Your CD-ROMs (Read only memory) are then pressed using the master stamp creating pits in the surface and metalised to create the reflective coating required for the reading of the pits by the laser in a CD player. Finally a protective lacquer is added to create a top surface suitable for printing. Due to the inevitably higher set up costs with this process, replication is more suited to larger production runs. When printing larger production runs it is more cost effective to use screen-printing or offset (litho) printing methods.
